Fast Program
Families and Schools Together, a science-based school program that successfully addresses issues of substance abuse among youth and families in the home and in the schools.
A total of 89 families graduated from the FAST Program in 2009: 9 families from Dan Mini, 9 from Elsa Widenmann, 10 from Highland, and 24 from Lincoln Elementary (3 cycles); 6 from Solano and 7 from Vallejo Middle; 8 from Bethel, 4 from Hogan, 8 from Peoples, and 4 from Vallejo High.


Graduating Families
On February 28th and March 1st, a FAST Leadership Team Training was held for two elementary schools. On March 21st and 22nd, training was held for four high schools. A total of 35 team partners were trained of which were staff, parents, youth, independent contractors and Vallejo residents. The training included an overview of the program; team partner’s roles; simulations of the components during each family night session; the evaluation process; methods of recruitment and parent empowerment.
At each site a Prevention Presentation was presented to the families in attendance. The presentations covered information about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and was translated to accommodate the bilingual families. They focused on family cohesion, parenting styles, communication techniques, discipline tips, and other sensitive issues.
