Solano Mentor Collaborative
Recruits, trains and certifies mentors for at-risk-kids throughout Solano County.
- SMC was one of 20 programs across the nation
to receive Recovery Act ARRA funding through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, (OJJDP). This has initiated expansions for SMC to strengthen local mentoring
efforts. Two additional collaborative mentoring programs joining this year “Back Me” Bay Area Counseling & Mediation program and Youth Peace Initiative, Inc. Peace Jam Solano.

addition to providing

students, necessary for graduation.
- Monthly mixers averaged over ten mentor/
mentee matches per month. This includes our “Thanks For Giving” Mentor Mixer which had standing room only. Our “Cultural Mixer”
extended opportunities to Jesse Bethel HS ASHEA program.
- The Basic Mentor
Training recruits
and trains volunteer
mentors to provide
mentors to support
local mentor agencies. Nineteen
agencies and 130 mentors trained in 2008-09.
- Ladies in Training (LIT) and Emerging
Gentlemen (EG) are two middle school group
mentoring programs that partner with SMC and FRC at Vallejo Middle school. LIT expanded to
Vallejo High School as a club run and staffed by volunteers and middle school graduates.
