Message from the President of the Board of Directors

FBP is celebrating our 20th year in Vallejo. We are so very proud of everything we have achieved in those 20 years. Our programs focus on children, families, and neighborhoods and mitigating the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Our programs are science-based, proven, and many of them are models for similar programs throughout the United States.

FBP started with a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and because of our great success, thanks to the vision and drive of our first Executive Director Jane Callahan, they continued to fund Vallejo’s FBP for 12 years. During that time we built strong collaborations, founded programs, and created partnerships that serve today as our fundamental base. It was a very difficult struggle from the RWJF monies to being strongly grant-driven, but the agency has made the transition and is stronger today than it has ever been.

In these difficult economic times, fundraising has become vital. The money that we raise through corporate donations, personal donations, and other events is used to apply for grants. There is no other money available to pay grant writers and without well written grants, there is no way to compete in the non-profit world today. Last year $25,000 spent on grant writers brought the agency $1.8 million.

If you want to be part of our success, make a donation (see donations on the home page) , you can call a program director and become a volunteer, we are always taking applications for Board member or you can work one day on a neighborhood clean-up, serve on a committee, become a mentor, there are so many ways you can help FBP make a difference. Call 648-5230 and ask!
