In 2009, Fighting Back Partnership (FBP) saw a need to establish a program that assisted the community in dealing with the recent decline in public safety. Initially, there were 10 active neighborhood watch groups located in central Vallejo. As of the end of 2011, there are over 350 groups throughout the entire city with the number growing monthly.
Crime prevention focuses on neighbors helping neighbors. The basic premise is that when you get to know your neighbors and they get to know you, unusual activity around your home will immediately be recognized and reported to the police.
FBP has taught Vallejo residents about Neighborhood Watch, Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED), Personal Safety, Disaster Preparedness and Civil Nuisance Abatement. FBP has also partnered with the Vallejo Housing Authority, Vallejo Police and Fire Departments to teach the Crime Free Multi-Family Housing program to apartment managers and their staff. FBP is also a member of the Mayor’s Anti-Prostitution Task Force and we provide input on surveillance camera placement throughout the city.
We are proud to say that our Crime Prevention programs have been nationally recognized by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA). Our staff have been guest lecturers at national conferences and on webinars teaching other community about our Neighborhood Watch and Civil Nuisance Abatement activities. We have also been invited by other states to present these programs via webinar.
